Safety

A laser laboratory is a hazardous place with many potentially lethal pieces of equipment.  There are constant hazards to vision and you can be permanently blinded if you are careless!  We also use toxic and hazardous chemicals and you must be familiar with their hazards before you will be allowed to purchase them.

You must be aware of laboratory safety before entering the lab.  All students are required to read the safety manuals posted below and sign a statement saying they have read and understood this information.

Safety Information

bullet

Material Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in our laboratory.  An MSDS has health, fire, and reactivity hazard data for a particular chemical.  You must familiarize yourself with any potential hazards before using a chemical.  If a chemical used in the lab is not listed in our MSDS list, you can look it up from the Vermont SIRI database.
