L.A.S.E.R. C.U.L.T Safety Rules

Limit Laboratory Access  
Entry to the lab, including the classroom, is permitted only to those students who are currently enrolled in ECEN3813, ECEN3823, or ECEN4813 and have signed a safety agreement.  Access is limited due to laser and high voltage hazards which are present in the lab.  If you wish to show a friend the lab you are only permitted to do so during times the TA or instructor is present, or with permission of instructor.

Keep the Lab Clean  
You must leave your workspace clean when you leave the laboratory.  If you are leaving a temporary mess (< 24 hours) you must put a sign up stating you have left, and the time you will return.
Penalty Any offence: Snack Penalty. Buy a snack for everybody in your lab. You must be willing to eat the snack you buy.

No Horseplay  
You will not use any equipment in a manner that it is not intended for, you will conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times.  
Penalty  First offence:  Minimum of 10% of project points deducted for entire team (one letter grade) or temporary suspension from lab.  Second offence:  Suspension from lab and minimum of 50% of project points deducted for entire team.  Flagrant violations will result in penalties up to and including immediate expulsion from the course with a grade of "F".

Follow Safe Practices  
You must not do anything to endanger yourself or others in the lab.  These include keeping your laser beam confined at all times, handing chemicals in a safe manner, not letting cords dangle where others can trip over them.
Penalty  First offence: warning.  Second offence: two day suspension of your group from the lab.  Third offence: entire group will receive a zero on the current case study.  Flagrant violations will result in penalties up to and including immediate expulsion from the course with a grade of "F".

Intentional Safety Violations 
Any breach of lab safety in an intentional manner which causes the threat of harm to another person.
Penalty  For any offence you fail course immediately. Do not pass go. Do not collect a grade (other than F).

Sabotage, Theft, or Tampering
Any unsanctioned use of some other group's experiment or parts including borrowing equipment without receiving permission, intentional misalignment of optics, or hiding another groups tools or parts. Treated like cheating.
Penalty  First offence: entire group will receive a zero on the current case study.  Second offence: you fail the course!

Proper Care of Equipment and Supplies
All equipment and supplies use in the are property of OSU. 
Your group is responsible for returning all parts you have checked out in working condition.  You must report any damage or wear of parts.  Items are fragile and can be broken through mishandling or negligence.  Loss or negligence will result in the group member's Bursar accounts being charged full catalog price of all broken items.  Do not check out items until you are aware of the correct handling procedures.  No items can be removed from the storeroom without permission of instructor or TA.
Penalty  All members group will be charged to replace broken or lost items.
